CrossFight Testing
“It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.”
It is refreshing to know that all the Hard Work that I, Master Jess, Mr. Shawn and all the other instructors dedicate to training the CrossFight students is making a major difference in the quality of a martial arts student and a human being. The passion, dedication, and care for each other demonstrated yesterday is the greatest reward an instructor can have. Not to mention the demonstration of fitness, and skill. This was an example of the quality of student and training that goes on in our house….your house!
Miss Chelsea, Mr Adam and Ms. Michelle we are very proud of how you performed and who you have become….. we still got alot of work ahead of us.
Master Jess your students look awesome!
But yesterday was not the end but the beginning….. Tomorrow will be an easy one
-pictures coming soon
Journal
I am glad to hear that testing went well, I cannot wait to get back and see everybody..congratulations to all that tested.
Bobby
I don’t think I could have seen a more motivated group than I saw yesterday. I know I came in a little late but the fact that you all were still pushing as hard as you could until the very end is what impressed me so much and constantly impresses me everyday.
I can’t believe you all are red tips now. I remember when you were white belts:) I am glad to see a new white belt group that will also represent Sparta to its fullest I don’t think there could be better people in it.
Chelsea, Michelle, and Adam- your testing was outstanding, i’m so proud of all of you and I can’t wait to see you with your new belts on Monday!
Absolutely incredible testing yesterday. Mr Adam, you were awe-inspiring, and Miss Chelsea and Miss Michelle, you were fantastic. I know you were all tired by the time testing rolled around, and you “sucked it up” and gave it your all.
It is such an honor training with each and every member of CrossFit and CrossFight. I am challenged at every workout and fight class and love every minute of it.
I would like to thank everyone to sprang into action to help Johnnie yesterday during the awards ceremony. Your care and treatment of his injury was fantastic. The staff at St Joseph’s ER were very impressed by the wrapping of his leg.
I’m sorry that the awards ceremony was disrupted and really hope that nothing like that ever happens again. I know it is one that I will remember for a very long time.
Again, congratulations everyone on your new rank! I look forward to seeing you in class tomorrow.
Very impressive performance and another successful testing! Congratulations to all who tested, but most of all congratulations to Master Chief!!! Sir, you are the force behind our success, the students’ performance is a reflection of the hard work and the planning you go through everyday with the help of Master Jess… You are a man of great influence and your influence has a magic touch on kids as well as on adults, I continue to admire your ability to find the right time to say the right things not only making people believe in you but making them believe in themselves too… Not only you are changing lives but I think you are creating an army…(time to revisit your list and check off # 2)…
Long Live the KING! and Sparta too!!!
A big THANK YOU goes to you and to SHAWNY too.
CONGRATS TO ALL OUR CROSSFIGHT SPARTANS! WHAT AN AWESOME DISPLAY OF SKILL, ENDURANCE AND HEART! MS. CHELSEA, MR. ADAM AND MS. MICHELLE, YOU TRULY REPRESENTED SPARTA AND ALL IT STANDS FOR. MASTER CHIEF AND MASTER JESS, AGAIN YOU OUT DID YOURSELVES WITH ANOTHER AMAZING TESTING AND AGOGE. SO MUCH TIME , SO MUCH PLANNING, SO MUCH EFFORT. WE ARE ALL SO FORTUNATE TO HAVE MASTER INSTRUCTORS THAT ALLOW US TO SHOW CASE OUR ABILITIES IN FRONT OF ALL OF OUR FRIENDS AND FAMILIES AND BECOME BETTER MARTIAL ARTISTS AND PEOPLE ALONG THE WAY. GOD BLESS CROSSFIT SPARTA!
My List of Greatness from Saturday’s Testing…
The new class of White Belts – Shawn S, Chris D, the Ortiz brothers, Johnny, etc. You make us proud…and keep us on our toes
The entire Ortiz family – you are a fantastic addition to the Sparta family.
Chelsea and Michelle for doing such a great job during the actual testing, as well as prior to the testing during their agoge.
Mr. Adam – watching you run through your forms is awe-inspiring. I will never get tired of watching your balance of intensity and ‘crispness’ while doing the forms. Just incredible.
I also love watching our black belts fight each other. During class, we are typically too busy fighting each other to watch our higher ranks. However, it is quite the show when Mr. Adam and (fill in the blank) fight. We could charge admission just for that.
Thank you to all of the higher ranks for sharing your knowledge with us. There is never a time that you turn your back on a ‘color belt’ in need. You are all so willing to help us get better at everything we do. Thank you so much.
Congrats to Miss Kelsea and Miss Ashtin for being assigned the esteemed ranks of Junior Instructor and Asst Instructor, respectively. You are both incredibly supportive and encouraging. Great job.
Thank you to Kenny and the Ferguson’s for another incredible lunch.
Thank you to Master Jess and Master Chief Diaz for another fantastic, well-organized testing. It just gets better and better. And special thanks for allowing me to test after missing time the last two weeks.
God Bless Us, Everyone.
It’s hard to express what this testing meant to me. As I mentioned to several of you, I started in the martial arts 15 years ago with a goal of becoming a black belt. I had made it through the ranks but was fighting off injuries and chose to walk away from it when I was preparing for my black belt. A tough decision but I believe it was the right one at the time. After a short break, I took up boxing which was easier on my back and enjoyed 8-9 years of training with Horton’s Gym. Training that I look back at and realize how the training and the attitudes are very similar to Sparta. My coach taught me many lessons and the most memorable was – no matter how tired you are never let on…be the first one to hit the bag (or any drill) when the bell rings to start the round and never stop before the bell rings to stop the round. He taught me mental toughness and that your body will do more than your mind thinks it will do.
These were lessons that have served me well at Sparta and which Sparta has continued to improve upon. Master Diaz, your lessons in leadership have tremendous value for us not just at Sparta but in life. I look forward to learning more from you. Master Jess, your commitment to us (your students) and your desire to see us succeed is so evident everyday that you work with us. I admire this about you so much. Master Diaz once spoke to us (at the other building) about leadership. He said that people in positions of power either lead by demanding respect or commanding respect. Master Jess, I have always felt that you are very effective as a leader because you command our respect 100% of the time. Ms. Rena, you are so a wonderful and giving person. Thank you so much for the food and your genuine caring for us. Mr. Shawn, thank you for always supporting us in our training and development of skills. Ms. Lynn and Miss Emily, you are great people, terrific martial arts and very supportive friends. I learn a lot from both of you. Miss Emily, those 3 kids have you to thank for me not landing on them
. Mr. Joey and Mr. Jhett, thank you for demonstrating great skills for us to learn from. Mr. Joe, thank you for always being there for me. I can always count on you for a smile and an encouraging word.
Mr. Adam and Miss Chelsea, I am very glad that I had the opportunity to do my agoge with you. I admire your skills and your attitude. Adam, you displayed awesome skills during your test after a night that was taxing both physically and mentally. It was a pleasure to watch and I am very proud to train with you. Miss Chelsea, you did so great. You were so nervous going into the agoge but you did an outstanding job. I look forward to watching you continue to develop as a martial artist and as a leader.
To everyone else who tested – you did an incredible job. I was so impressed with the quality and mostly the ATTITUDE of everyone. I believe that “things happen for a reason”. I believe that I didn’t get my black belt the first time so that I earn my black belt with you! A group – that I am so proud to be a part of because everyone strives to be their best and motivates others to do their best. What an environment to train in! It starts at the top and carries all the way to the bottom. Thank you for the encouraging words during the test! Achieving a goal doesn’t mean as much if you don’t have people to share the journey with you. The bumps in the road make the journey that much more meaningful and the achievement that much greater. I look forward to being a part of your journey to black belt and up the ranks of black belt
Thank you for all of the spectators that came out to support us – It means a lot to us!
Long live Sparta and the Sparta Attitude!
I am so happy that testing is over but it was all worth it. Mr.Adam and Ms.Michelle did a great job during the agoge. I cant wait to come to class today!!!!!
