Shawn and Lynn, I’m real sorry to hear about Dallas. I definitely know how it feels to lose a pet and only time can heal the pain. You just have to remember all the good times you had and the joy he brought you and your family. I look forward to a workout in honor of him.

  • Ironhead says:

    Get well soon, Mrs. Newman.

McCarthy family, my heart aches for you. If we can do anything, let us know! Looking forward to Dallas’ workout tomorrow.

  • Ironhead says:

Master Jess, thank you so much for the talk after class. I really appreciate it.

  • Jester says:

McCarthy’s, please accept my sympathy on the death of your beloved companion. I’m sorry that Dallas is no longer with you.

KOS, thank you so much for mentioning my RXed number sir. Although quite lower, it is much more significant to me.

Well, I’m probably going to have to do at least one Fight-n-Fit day this week to make up for tonight’s dinner. My MIL made a traditional dish called “Sancocho”… it’s a very thick stew, comprised of various types of meat (sometimes as many as seven, but tonight’s only had three or four), two to three types of tubers, plantains, corn and… well, I’m sure there’s also other stuff in there. This dish is only made a couple of times a year since it takes hours on end just to prep. Anyhow, I only had one bowl (whereas before I would’ve had 4-5) and I skipped the also traditional side bowl of rice. But woohoo, was this yummy!

Here’s a pic if you’re interested: (WARNING: Not safe for vegetarians, and this might even look gross to those who have never had this type of meal, but appearance matters not with sancocho)

No regrets, I did this under complete control and don’t feel I caved or anything. B-) Hey, this would probably be good agoge fuel!

  • KOS says:

Shawn, Lynn, jhett, Skye Dallas was a good dog he will be missed, but know your daddy is happy because Dallas is sitting at Tom Landry’s feet watching the cowboys practice and thinking of you all….

    We will always remember him….

  • Ruthless says:

Shawn, Lynn, Jhett & Skye you have my deepest sympathies on the loss of Dallas — but I gotta say, Tom Landry is a great guy, so I know he’ll be well taken care of! :) I may have to miss his WOD today, but I will try to make it this afternoon.

    Dawn, get better soon.

  • SHAWN COS says:

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR WARM SYMPATHIES! I WAS 24 YEARS OLD WHEN LYNN BOUGHT DALLAS FOR ME AND HE BECAME A MEMBER OF OUR FAMILY . HE WAS ALREADY 7 WHEN JHETT WAS BORN SO MY KIDS HAVE KNOWN HIM THEIR ENTIRE LIVES. HE WAS A GREAT DOG (YELLOW LAB/ AMERICAN POINTER MIX). HE SPENT TIME IN 3 FEET OF SNOW IN THE SMOKEY MOUNTAINS AND ON MY BOAT IN THE GULF OF MEXICO. HE HAD A GOOD LIFE AND WE WILL MISS HIM DEARLY. HE LIVED TO BE 17 1/2 YEARS OLD AND WOULD GREET ME EACH DAY I CAME IN THE DOOR. JHETT TOOK IT UPON HIMSELF TO WRITE THE EULOGY AND I THOUGHT SOME OF YOU PARENTS MAY APPRECIATE IT. IT WENT LIKE THIS: “(DALLAS) D IS FOR DEPENDABLE, A IS FOR AWESOME, L IS FOR LOYAL, L IS FOR LOVING , A IS FOR AMAZING AND S IS FOR SMARTEST DOG EVER. GOOD BYE BOY, WE LOVE YOU AND WILL MISS YOU!” HE READ THIS ALL THE WHILE SOBBING. IM SO PROUD OF MY LITTLE MAN! THANKS AGAIN SPARTANS! PS GET WELL SOON DAWN! I THINK IT WOULD BE FITTING FOR THE COWBOYS TO WIN THE SUPERBOWL THIS YEAR.

  • Michelle says:

Shawn, Lynn, Jhett and Skye so sorry to hear about Dallas. It’s hard but you have many fond memories to remember him by. These memories will pop in your head every once in a while and make you smile. He will never be forgotten because he lives in your memories. May he rest in peace and watch over you. Jhett – that was a great eulogy.

  • Jmo says:

Dear McCarthy family, i am very sorry for your loss and I understand your pain. He must have been one happy and well cared for boy to last 17 years! Jhett’s eulogy choked me up. RIP, Dallas!

  • Colleen says:

McCarthy’s, I am truly sorry for your loss. I know he will be missed tremendously. Living such a wonderful, long life showed that he was given so much love. I hope he watches down over you and bestows upon you the peace that he is resting with.

  • Chris D. says:

To the McCarthy Family…May I share with you a quote a friend once sent me years ago when I lost Shannon…I hope it brings your family the same joy and remembrance it brought me…

“The best friend man has in the world may turn against him and become his enemy. His son, or daughter, that he has reared with loving care, may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and good name may become traitors to their faith. The money a man has he may lose. It flies away from him, perhaps when he needs it most. A man’s reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees when success is with us may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our head.

The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog. A man’s dog stands by him in prosperity and poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground when the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only to be near his master’s side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer, he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounters with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince.

When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wing, and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens.

If fortune drives his master forth, an outcast in the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him, to guard him against danger, to fight against his enemies. And when that last scene of all comes, and death takes his master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there, by the graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad, but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true, even in death.”
    -Senator George Graham Vest
